Iran NPC, Tehran- Today, July 29, marks the 77th anniversary of the most inspiring sporting movement in the world — the Paralympic Movement.
It all began with the pioneering vision of Sir Ludwig Guttmann, a physician who recognized the transformative power of sport in the physical and emotional rehabilitation of World War II veterans. His efforts led to the launch of the first Stoke Mandeville Games in England in 1948 — an event that laid the foundation for what would become the global Paralympic Movement.
Since the inaugural Paralympic Games in Rome in 1960, the Summer Paralympics have been held 17 times, each edition more magnificent than the one before. As we look ahead to Paris 2024, the Paralympic Games continue to grow in scale and impact, creating equal opportunities and showcasing the remarkable abilities of persons with disabilities to the world.
The Paralympic Games are a powerful celebration of determination and belief — values that inspire millions of people across the globe. The Movement has turned the dreams of countless individuals, regardless of race, color, gender, or level of physical, sensory, or intellectual ability, into reality.
The Paralympic Movement is not just about sport; it is a symbol of inclusion, resilience, and human potential — a movement that continues to shape a more equitable and hopeful world.
