As one of the fastest growing sports in the Paralympic Movement, wheelchair tennis made its first Paralympic appearance at Barcelona 1992. Later in 1995, this sport was introduced to the Iranian athletes, and their first national championships was staged in 1997.

Team Iran made its first international appearance in the Asia-Pacific disabled multi-sport event in Malaysia.

Wheelchair Tennis is now practiced by many Iranian male and female athletes in 11 provincial clubs in the country.
