4th Co-ordination Commission Meeting marks major progress on the road to Aichi–Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games

Aichi–Nagoya Co-ordination Meeting
The 4th Co-ordination Commission (Co-Com) Meeting for the Aichi–Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games was successfully held in Nagoya on October 29 and 30, marking another key milestone in the preparations for the region’s biggest Para sport event.

The two-day meeting focused on comprehensive progress reports presented by the Aichi–Nagoya Asian Games Organising Committee (AINAGOC) across all functional areas, highlighting steady advancement towards next year’s Games.

The Co-Com Meeting followed the successful Chef de Mission (CDM) Seminar, which brought together representatives from 31 National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) across Asia. During the seminar, delegates gained firsthand insights into competition venues, accommodation, transportation, logistics, arrivals and departures, security, and accreditation. Presentations on ceremonies, protocol, APC family services, volunteers, IT, media and broadcast, and ticketing were also part of the agenda.

The Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) delegation praised AINAGOC for its excellent coordination and for hosting both meetings at such a crucial stage of preparations. The site visits, conducted one year ahead of the Games, were described as a valuable opportunity to witness firsthand the readiness and progress of the venues and facilities.

Site Visit

During their visit, the APC delegation toured key competition sites, including the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Gymnasium, venue for Sitting Volleyball; the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Square, venue for Para Archery; and the newly built Aichi International Arena, which will host Wheelchair Basketball.

The delegation also inspected samples of the innovative container-style villas that will be installed at the Athletes’ Plaza during the Games, expressing satisfaction with the quality and progress of preparations.

Later at a press conference, APC President Majid Rashed commended the Organising Committee and the host city for their dedication and meticulous planning:

“The past few days have been truly inspiring, reminding us of the power of Para sport as we held the Chef de Mission Seminar and the 4th Co-ordination Commission Meeting — both key milestones on our road to the 5th Asian Para Games, taking place from October 18 to 24, 2026,” said Mr. Rashed.

“The Games will be Japan’s largest Para sport event since Tokyo 2020, welcoming between 3,000 and 4,000 athletes from 45 National Paralympic Committees competing across 18 sports. That’s three times more athletes than Paris — three times more families, media stories, and local communities inspired to support Para sport.”

‘Strength of Human Spirit’

He added: “In one year, Asia will come together to celebrate the strength of the human spirit and the power of Para sport to inspire and transform lives.”

“Our athletes train tirelessly, overcoming challenges with the full support of their National Paralympic Committees. Together, they prove what’s possible through determination and unity, inspiring a more inclusive Asia.”

Reflecting on the recent meetings, Mr. Rashed said the experience gave NPCs greater confidence as they prepare for next year’s Games:

“Our NPCs now have a clear picture of what awaits them in Aichi–Nagoya. They’ve seen the venues, met the organisers, and felt the spirit of the Games taking shape. This gives them great confidence as they return home to continue preparing their athletes for what promises to be an unforgettable celebration of sport, inclusion, and resilience.”

“Let’s continue this journey with the same dedication and commitment that brought us here — and together, make Aichi–Nagoya 2026 a Games to remember.” The Co-Com sessions were attended by Governor Hideaki Ohmura, President of AINAGOC; Mayor Ichiro Hirosawa, Vice President of AINAGOC; Mr. Kazuyuki Mori, President of the Japan Paralympic Committee and Honorary Advisor of AINAGOC; APC CEO Tarek Souei, and senior representatives from AINAGOC and the Japan Paralympic Committee.
