Team Iran added five more medals to their tally on Day 3 of the Oran 2026 Para Powerlifting African Open Championships, following strong performances in the men’s up to 107kg category.
Iran NPC, Tehran - Paralympic and world champion Aliakbar Gharibshahi led the way with double gold after successfully lifting 230kg, 235kg and 240kg. His 705kg total also secured the overall gold medal in men’s up to 107kg category.
His teammate Saman Rezaei opened with a successful 205kg lift but was unable to complete 212kg on his second and third attempts. He finished the competition with the silver medal.
In the next generation division, Reza Enayatollahi lifted 200kg on his opening attempt before missing 210kg in his second lift and withdrawing from the third. His result was enough to secure gold in the next generation category, as well as the overall next generation title.
More than 150 athletes from 20 countries are competing at the championships in Oran, including delegations from Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Jordan and Kazakhstan alongside 15 African nations.
