Iran secure gold, silver and overall title in men’s up to 72kg in Oran on Friday night (22 May).
Iran NPC, Tehran - Oran 2026 Para Powerlifting African Open Championships continued on Friday night (22 May) with Iran claiming gold, silver and the overall title in the men’s up to 72kg competition.
Amir Jafari delivered a strong performance to win gold after successfully lifting 196kg in his opening attempt before clearing 205kg in his final lift.
Fellow Iranian Mohsen Bakhtiar secured silver with successful lifts of 197kg, 203kg and 205kg.
Bakhtiar also topped the overall standings with a total lift of 605kg to add another gold medal for Iran.
More than 150 athletes from 20 countries are competing at the championships in Oran, including delegations from Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Jordan and Kazakhstan alongside 15 African nations.
