Iranian Para Powerlifting Teams to Compete in Memory of Makan Nasiri.

Iran NPC, Tehran- The Iranian women’s and men’s national Para powerlifting teams departed Tehran on Saturday morning to compete at the Oran 2026 Para Powerlifting African Open Championships in Algeria, carrying the memory of seven-year-old Iranian child Makan Nasiri.

Team Iran has symbolically dedicated its participation in the competition to Makan Nasiri, the young boy who lost his life during the recent war and whose body has not yet been recovered. Reports said he was among the victims of the attack on a school in the southern Iranian city of Minab.

The Oran 2026 African Open Championships will be held from 21 to 24 May and is considered one of the mandatory regional competitions within the qualification pathway for the LA28 Paralympic Games.

Iranian athletes will compete across several men’s and women’s weight categories during the championships as part of their international preparation and qualification campaign toward future major events.

The delegation’s tribute reflects the solidarity of the Paralympic Movement with innocent civilian victims and highlights the role of sport in honoring resilience, remembrance and hope.
