Team Iran secured four golds, one silver and one bronze on Saturday (23 May) at the Oran 2026 Para Powerlifting African Open Championships, across next generation and senior men’s events.
Iran NPC, Tehran - In the men’s 97kg category, Aliasghar Abareghi produced a commanding display to take two golds. He completed successful lifts of 210kg, 220kg and 223kg, sealing the top spot in the event and finishing with a winning 653kg total.
His teammate Mobin Mohammadi also featured in the same category, lifting 205kg and 225kg before falling short on his final attempt at 222kg. His efforts earned him the bronze medal, adding to Iran’s overall tally for the day.
In the women’s next generation up to 61kg, Atiyehsadat Hosseini delivered a dominant performance to claim double gold.
She successfully lifted 93kg and 98kg on her opening two attempts before missing 102kg on her final lift. Her 191kg total secured both the next generation overall title and a second gold medal.
In the women’s over 86kg category, Niko Roozbahani also added another medal for Iran.
She opened with a successful 135kg lift, missed 140kg, but bounced back to complete 145kg on her final attempt, securing the silver medal.
More than 150 athletes from 20 countries are competing at the championships in Oran, including delegations from Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Jordan and Kazakhstan alongside 15 African nations.
