Iran added to their medal tally on the second day of competition at the Oran 2026 Para Powerlifting African Open Championships in Algeria with a gold, a silver and two bronze medals.
Iran NPC, Tehran – On the second day of the Oran 2026 Para Powerlifting African Open Championships, Alireza Seifi delivered a strong performance in the men’s up to 65kg category, successfully lifting 183kg and 188kg in his opening attempts. Although he missed his final lift of 190kg, his best lift secured him the gold medal.
In the men’s up to 88kg category, Rouhollah Rostami opened with 170kg and followed with successful lifts of 180kg and 190kg, finishing with a total of 540kg to claim the bronze medal.
In the women’s up to 73kg category, Zahra Aghaei delivered a consistent series of lifts, opening with 128kg and improving to 134kg on her second attempt. She missed her final lift of 137kg but secured the bronze medal in the lift. Aghaei also claimed a second bronze medal in the overall total with 262kg.
The Oran 2026 Para Powerlifting African Open Championships brings together more than 150 athletes from 20 countries, including 92 men and 59 women. Fifteen African nations are joined by five delegations from outside the continent: Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Jordan and Kazakhstan.
Host nation Algeria leads participation with 27 athletes, followed by Egypt (20), Iran (16) and Nigeria (13).
