Iran Honors Female Paralympic Medalists During National Paralympic Week

Vice President for Women and Family Affairs meets Iran’s female Paralympic medalists on Saturday.

Iran NPC, Tehran- As part of the National Paralympic Day and Paralympic Week celebrations, the Vice President for Women and Family Affairs, Dr. Zahra Behrouz Azar, visited the Iran National Paralympic Committee (NPC) and met with a group of the country’s outstanding female Paralympic medalists on Saturday, 11 October.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Ghafoor Karegar, President of the Iran NPC, Dr. Maryam Kazemipour, NPC Vice President, and Dr. Fariba Mohammadian, Deputy for Women’s Sports Development at the Ministry of Sport and Youth.
During the gathering, twelve female Paralympians who have brought honor to Iran in various editions of the Paralympic Games were recognized for their exceptional achievements. Among them was Maliheh Safaei, holder of the highest number of medals in the history of the Asian Para Games, who received special acknowledgment for her long-standing success and contribution to women’s Para sports.
Sareh Javanmardi, Iran’s most decorated female Paralympian with five Paralympic medals (four gold, one bronze), and Maliheh Safaei, with seven Asian Para Games medals (four gold, three silver), addressed the event on behalf of their fellow athletes, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and unity in promoting women’s participation in sport.

Held under the theme “Iran National Paralympic Day and Week,” the event highlighted the central role of women in the growth of the Paralympic Movement in Iran.
National Paralympic Week is celebrated annually from 10 to 16 October (18–24 Mehr) nationwide under the slogan “National Paralympic Day — Celebrating Power of Determination.”
