78 Years of the Paralympic Movement: A Legacy of Courage, Hope and Equality

Paralympic-Movement-anniversary
Today, 29 July, marks the 78th anniversary of the Paralympic Movement—a global movement that has transformed lives through the power of sport.

Iran NPC, Tehran - The journey began in 1948, when Sir Ludwig Guttmann organised the first Stoke Mandeville Games in England, recognising sport as a powerful tool for rehabilitation, inclusion and hope for World War II veterans. That vision evolved into the first Paralympic Games in Rome in 1960.

Since then, the Summer Paralympic Games have grown into one of the world's largest sporting events, showcasing the extraordinary achievements of athletes with disabilities while promoting equality, inclusion and opportunity.

For 78 years, the Paralympic Movement has inspired millions across the globe, proving that determination, resilience and belief can overcome barriers and redefine what is possible.
