Iran’s men’s wheelchair basketball team has travelled to Thailand for the 2026 World Championship qualification tournament.
Iran NPC, Tehran - Iran’s men’s wheelchair basketball team has headed to Thailand seeking one of the final qualification spots for the 2026 Wheelchair Basketball World Championships in Canada.
The Iranian team arrives in Suphan Buri after completing a preparation camp in Turkey, where the squad faced Turkish clubs Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe in a series of friendly matches designed to boost match fitness and sharpen tactical preparations ahead of the crucial tournament.
Team Iran has been drawn in Group B alongside Brazil, Poland and Senegal in what promises to be one of the most competitive groups of the event.
Iran named a 12-player roster featuring Mohsen Tolouei, Amirreza Ahmadi, Abolfazl Jalaei, Omid Hadi Azhar, Reza Nik Sirat, Abdoljalil Gharanjik, Erfan Bakhshandeh, Vahid Saadatpour, Morteza Abedi, Mohammadhasan Sayyari, Mahdi Abbasi and Mohammadtaha Yarmohammadi.
Behrouz Soltani will lead Iran as head coach, assisted by coach Gholamreza Nami. Yaser Gilaki joins the delegation as strength and conditioning coach, while Babak Mohammadi will serve as masseur. Ali Arezoumandi accompanies the team as technical director and team manager.
The repechage tournament will take place from June 8 to 12, with four teams earning qualification for the 2026 Wheelchair Basketball World Championships in Canada.
