TEHRAN – Iran’s Rouhollah Rostami won a silver medal in the 2021 World Para Powerlifting Championships in the men’s up to 80kg on Friday.
China’s Gu Xiaofei of China won the gold medal by lifting 230kg above Rostami who also lifted 230kg.
Egyptian Mohamed Elelfat snatched the bronze with 217kg.
Only three months ago Rostami comfortably won the Paralympic gold lifting 225kg, 228kg, and 234kg before the unsuccessful 'power lift' attempt to break his world record (241kg). He set the world record at the Bangkok 2021 World Cup in May.
The tournament is one of the compulsory tournaments to qualify for the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris, France.
The competition will run until December 5 in Tbilisi, Georgia
