TEHRAN – Iranian powerlifter Majid Farzin is going to break his own record in the World Para Powerlifting Championships.

The competitions were due to start in Mexico City on September 30 but was postponed after the 7.1 magnitude quake left hundreds dead and caused major damage to buildings and infrastructure.

The powerlifting competition at Mexico City 2017 will now take place from 2-8 December. Reigning world champion and world record-holder Farzin will be the strong favorite for gold in the men’s up to 80kg event at the Championships.

“I am well-prepared for the competition and I want to break my own record,” Farzin, who set an outstanding new world record at last year’s Paralympics, told Paralympic.ir.

“I won the gold medal in Rio after lifting 240kg and I want to register a better record in Mexico City,” he added.
“I was injured in September but I am fully ready now and want to break my record,” he concluded.
