Sareh Javanmardi won a gold medal at the women’s 10m air pistol SH1 event at the Paralympic Games on Friday.
Javanmardi made history by becoming Iran’s first ever female gold medallist in shooting para-sport event.
The current world record holder finished the competition with a score of 193.4 points which was a Paralympic final record.
Javanmardi claimed her second Paralympics medal after her only previous appearance, at London 2012, saw her finish with a bronze.
"I'm very happy that I get the first gold medal for the Republic of Iran and for my delegation," said Javanmardi.
"I am so very happy, this tells my people that disability is not limitation," she added.
“I will do my best to improve my records in future competitions and make the people of my country happy,” Javanmardi added.
The silver medal in final went to Olga Kovalchuk of Ukraine with a score of 191.2 points.
Turkey's Aysegul Pehlivanlar finished in third and took the bronze medal as she finished some way off of the top two on 172.3 points.
