War veteran Mokhtar Noor Afshan took up his sporting career with handball after his paralysis in 1982 in a spinal injuries center for war veterans. This up-and-rising thrower gave a number of other sports including swimming and wheelchair basketball a try, and took part in a national wheelchair racing tournament for war veterans. In 1984, he was called up to the national squad down the road, and turned out to be one of the most decorated Paralympians with four gold and two world records.
